This was the outside of our front door. It’s a fly. Earlier in the week I left for work and the fly was there. Since then we have had a southerly squall, torrential rain and wind. The next day I went out in the morning. The fly was still there. It had not moved. There is a lesson for us in this. Stay in place, hunker down, persevere, no matter what squalls either external or internal come at you. If a wee fly can do it….
Satan was called Beelzebub, the Lord of the Flies. And many people in our current distress are acting like the children from William Golding’s Lord of the Flies.
But in this instance we can learn a positive thing from a wee fly as we would from an ant or a locust, as the Bible guides us. “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!” Proverbs 6:6; and Proverbs 30:25, “Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer.” “Locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks,” Proverbs 30:27.
Of course, one of the plagues of Egypt, was a plague of flies.
The coronavirus might feel like that to us. But in its right time, Moses prayed and Exodus 8:31 says, “and the Lord did what Moses asked. The flies left Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not a fly remained.” In its right time, the coronavirus will leave and not a germ remain. But in the meantime, lets remain in place, steadfast, and ask the Lord for deliverance as Moses did for the Jews in Egypt while plagues swirled around them.
